This message is for all those interested in the SwimFit program at the Treasure Valley YMCA.
Dear swimmers,
My name is Kevin Everett and I’m proud to be representing you as your Head Swimming Coach at the YMCA. I’ve been involved in swimming ever since learning to swim at a few months old. There’s been a passion every step of the way; not only to get faster but to be a student of the sport. My education has been extensive and I’ve learned from some of the best in the business. Starting with my father who coached the Boise Y team in the late 70’s to Frank Burlison who still heads the Boise Y Swim Team, to my college coach Pete Hovland, who led us to four consecutive NCAA DII National Championship and his many talented assistant coaches, to the many great swimmers I’ve had the pleasure to train with. Many of my team mates from college are Head Coaches of Division I & II colleges (including several National Championship programs) and large age group swim programs. I have also learned from my triathlon experience and love to coach open water swimming. I wanted to go this route right out of college but was lured into the IT world. I have since ‘righted’ my ship and look forward to instilling the passion I have for swimming in as many people as we can.
As your Head Coach my goal is to challenge you. Whether you are a beginner learning the nuances of stroke technique or an experienced swimmer focused on a national title, I feel this program can make you better. Another goal is to listen to you...what are your needs and how can I meet as many of them as possible? Bottom line, how can we grow the SwimFit program, make you faster (ie. Getting in better shape for you fitness swimmers), while having fun doing it. I feel swimming should be like literacy; everyone should know how to swim. I’d like this program to be one of those avenues. This program will incorporate a wide variance of abilities. We will have some fun and build connections with one another.
This program will be a success with your help. We need committed swimmers, coaches, and volunteers with lots of smiles. I welcome your input. What improvements do you want to see? What do you like about the program.
I urge you to go here for continued communication and updates on this program: http://tvmasters.org/forum/index.php (http://tvmasters.org/forum/index.php)
As of now, I have built two training programs for the largest groups we have in the SwimFit program. One is for the Boise 70.3 Ironman on June 12 and the other if for SCY Nationals at Georgia Tech May 20 -23. The beauty of these training programs is that they both overlap until April 26th (4 weeks prior to SCY Nats). The entire month of January has been focused on Base Training. In February, we start our Periodization cycle with a Build week#1, then a harder Build week#2, then a Recovery week with more focus on drills before starting the cycle again. For most of you one of these programs should fall right in line with what you’re doing, where training needs to be tweaked is in the weeks leading up to your ‘A’ race. Please let me know about your competition schedule so I can create training plans for the largest groups.

Thanks for your support and feedback.I look forward to meeting all of you in the coming weeks.
Happy swimming,
