Hello!
If you are headed to Lucky Peak today, can you get a temperature reading? I went up last night, and the scuba guys said it was 52! While I don't think it was that bad, it certainly wasn't warm.
Also-does anyone know what the temperature is at Veterans? I thought it was warmer than Lucky Peak, but I don't actually know.
Thanks, everyone!

There were around 17 folks from the club up there swimming in the bay last night and all commented on how surprisingly warm it was, no blue fingers and toes. We didn't have a thermometer and don't have any info on Veterans temp at the moment.

I was part of the 17 last night and while the first five minutes sucked it actually wasn't bad once you got going. I'm not going to call it warm but definitely bearable and somewhat enjoyable.

George had his first open water swim of the year last night at Lucky Peak. He swam with no wetsuit, and while he was cold when he first got out, after drying off and running at full speed around the parking lot carrying a 4 foot branch in his mouth, he quickly warmed up and had no complaints. As for the rest of us, it was a lovely swim.
I read a post on the Aeros site by Drew that I thought was fitting and I'd like to relay his advice here. We can't do anything about this weather or the water temps. Let's not spend a lot of our energy and mental focus worrying about it, and instead think about the things that are in our control. Race day has enough stress already, trying to predict what the water temp is going to be shouldn't be one of our worries. Instead spend your time thinking about your race strategy and things you can control.

Is Veteran's Pond still on for noon today?

Maybe that's why I was so cold-I forgot to run around with a 4 foot branch in my mouth afterward. I'll add that to my training regimen.
I was mostly just curious about the water temp-my kayaking buddy who goes along with me keeps asking about the temperature, and my friend who did the Polar Bear Plunge. So do the fishermen! I know there's nothing I can do about it.
Thanks, everyone!

Water temps measured 54-55 last Sunday, and it felt much the same last night. For you optimists out there, the 70.3 website says to expect water temps in the 64-70 range. Yeah right!

Can we were a neoprene hood during the 70.3? The website refers to booties, but not to a hood.

I think so, but I would definitely ask that question at the race briefing.

Yes, hoods and booties are allowed.
