Last weekend I was riding with a group of Triathletes and the man leading our paceline decided to blow through a stop sign out on Beacon Light or Floating Feather or one of those roads way out west. Problem was, he yelled “CLEAR” because he expected the 4 door ford pickup to yield to us. Well the pickup expected us to yield to him, and guess who wins that battle! Our paceline leader was lucky he didn’t get himself killed or kill all the rest of us along with him. Please know, if you are leading a paceline it is your responsibility to watch and signal to the rest of the group when you encounter road hazards, whether the hazard is loose gravel, potholes, or 4 way stop signs.

Lost River Cycling has some great tips on how to ride safely in groups and high speed pacelines on their site. If you are newer to group riding, paceline riding, or just want to make sure you are following the rules of the road, please check out these two links. I know it’s cheesy, but it could save your life, or my life, which is kind of important to me…
