Hey all,

I've heard race reports from a few, and talked to a few of you....but I'm curious as to how everyone did.....I haven't had a chance to talk to all of you and was curious as to how it felt! I'd be also excited to hear from my fellow 70.3 first-timers. I know it was an amazing experience doing my first one this last weekend.

If you don't mind, if you did the race, or were there spectating and had some observations, reply to this thread and tell us all how it went!!!! We had a ton of people do this race and I'd love to hear from everyone.

*****************

For myself:

I was fortunate to be in one of the early swim groups, so I don't think the buoy was TOO messed up for me, although I noticed people cutting the course. I didn't hear kayakers saying a word about it. I found that wetsuit strippers are AWESOME.

The bike was a blast. I tend to overheat, so the rain actually cooled me off. Although I had to stay on the white line during ten mile creek stretch since the rest of the road was SOAKING. Being in one of the first waves was also really nice since not a lot of people were around me. Looked like some big crowds in the later waves. It was very cool to see a lot of you on the course!

The run, well let's just say I was elated when I got off the bike and my knee didn't hurt and my legs didn't cramp. The only thing that really hampered my running was the fact that I was on a two month taper from running! :D

Some other great memories:

Seeing everyone at the start, and Harold, Julie, Erin and Jen up there at swim cheering us on
All the support at the Aeros tent.....great spot to watch and I looked forward to seeing you all every time I came by.
Crossing that finish line, no matter what my time was, was an experience like no other race I've ever done. I'm sure you all had a similar feeling

And finally, thank you to those who were there standing in the rain supporting us. I can't tell you how much I appreciated it and it kept me going.

Now let's hear everyone else's take (racers and cheerers!)

5. There is money to be made by slowing down on the bike and picking up all of the sunglasses on the pavement. It can help pay your next entry fee.
4. The 2pm start has it's advantages/disadvantages. You have time to go #2 before the race started...always a plus. There's ample time to have pre-race nerves. I almost teared up getting into the water I was so nervous. Thanks to Marni for patting me on the back telling me I can deal with it....she was right.
3. If it looks like rain do NOT pack a pb&j sandwich w/white bread.
2. Caffeine really, really, really works. I was dead tired but was up 'til 1am.
1. It's okay to pee your pants on the bike or run course, especially when it's raining outside. I'm ashamed to say it felt awesome - who knew? I've officially joined the PNP club (piss-n-pants).

Nice job by everyone! Truly impressed by everyone's determination out there in the pouring rain.

Just a quick note on the swim course: not sure which buoys you saw racers cutting, Joe... if it was the red or the yellow ones? If you mean the yellow buoys, then that was allowed. A few people did ask about whether the yellow buoys had to stay on your right, so I checked with the swim director. He did say if they had drifted out of the way, racers could go between them. If you saw racers missing the red buoys, well, yah, that's pretty bad!

Aren't the wetsuit strippers the best? I saw some poor lady exit the water and immediately attempt to pull her wetsuit off. She was so disoriented from the swim it took her nearly 5 minutes to get it off. With her wetsuit down to her ankles, I didn't have the heart to tell her to pull it back up and run up the ramp for a little help.

I had a blast being down at the swim exit. It was fun to have a bird's eye view of everyone's strategy getting out of the water.

One thing I just learned 6 days post race:

Don't follow to close behind Tiana on the bike or run. The moisture coming off her may not be sweat.

Hey T when exactly did this coming of age PNP stuff happen? I sure hope it was just water spray from your wheel as I passed you by the Prison.?

I was too cold on the bike course to pee myself. I hit the first port a potty on the run and think that helped me catch my breath a little. Last year it took me 10 miles to pee myself on the bike. It just aint natural. I also loved those strippers! Great job to everyone. Can't wait to do it again!
